FAA ATP Conversion To EASA CPL/IR/ME (Frozen ATPL)

Much has been written about this subject so I thought I would add my own personal experiences and also make some valid comparisons.
My Personal route to obtaining an FAA ATP was as follows.
I initially needed an IR to fly a personal aircraft across the Atlantic.
My stumbling block was then finding a company that would issue insurance cover.
Eventually I managed to get one that would cover me on the proviso I had a ferry pilot in the right hand seat.

May Madness

Well talk about hectic.
May got off to a great start with a number of scheduled movements.
The warmer weather was on the way although not quite warm enough for non de-iced aircraft.
The DA40 upon entering the colder climates developed trouble starting, even with pre-heat and by the time it had reached Reykjavik, had developed a serious mag drop which after inspection, was deemed a new magneto was needed.
